Gua Sha MOQ Explained: Can You Mix Shapes and Colours in One Order?

"MOQ 100 pcs" looks like one number. It is not. The question almost every brand asks next is whether that minimum covers the whole order, or whether every shape and every colour needs its own 100 — and the answer changes the size of your first purchase order completely.
This page sets out exactly how our minimums are calculated, why they are structured that way, and how to plan a launch assortment that respects them without overspending on a first production run.

Quick Answer

Our MOQ is 100 pcs per shape and per colour — it is not a combined total across a mixed order. Three shapes means a minimum of 300 pcs (3 × 100). Two colours of the same shape also means 2 × 100. Custom retail packaging carries its own, higher minimum of 500 pcs per design. Stock tools with laser engraving dispatch in about 5–7 working days after artwork approval; shapes we produce to order need 15–20 days before branding even starts.

Why the Minimum Is Counted per Shape and per Colour

This is not a rule invented to push order sizes up. Each shape and each colour is a separate unit of production, and each one carries fixed costs and fixed checks that do not shrink just because the quantity is small.

1. Material is graded and cut in batches

Natural stone is sorted by colour and pattern before it is cut, because colour consistency is judged across a batch, not piece by piece. Two colours means two batches of rough material, two cutting runs and two sets of rejects. Stainless steel behaves the same way at the finishing stage: different finishes are polished separately.

2. Each shape has its own tooling and setup

A heart, a B-shape and a wide-tooth comb have different CNC programs, different polishing fixtures and different edge radii. Switching between them is a physical setup change, and the setup cost is the same whether you run 100 pieces or 1,000.

3. Quality control is done per batch

We inspect thickness, edge radius, flatness, surface polish and colour consistency. Each of those checks is performed on a production group. Merge three shapes into one "order" and you still have three inspection groups — the checking work does not merge with them.

4. Branding setup is per design

A laser engraving file or a silk screen plate is made for one artwork on one surface. A second colour, a second position or a second tool shape means a second program or plate. This is why a one-colour, one-position logo on the first order is the cheapest way to launch.

What That Looks Like in Real Order Sizes

Your intended assortment
Minimum order
1 shape, 1 colour

2 shapes, 1 colour
200 pcs
3 shapes, 1 colour
300 pcs
1 shape, 2 colours
200 pcs
3 shapes, 2 colours
600 pcs
Any assortment plus a custom retail box

The last row is the one that catches people out: the packaging minimum can be larger than the tool minimum. On a small first order, the box is usually the more expensive decision — not the gua sha.

How to Plan a First Order Within the Minimums

  1. Start with one shape in one colour at 100 pcs. One tool, one batch, one logo program. It validates your packaging, your price point and your sell-through with the smallest possible commitment.
  1. Choose a shape we hold in stock if your date is fixed. Jade heart shapes and most stainless steel shapes are held ready, so they skip the 15–20 day production window entirely and only wait for branding. Our stock update lists what is available and the order cut-off dates.
  1. Keep the range small in run one and expand in run two. A second run repeats no setup cost — your engraving file and packaging die stay on file — so the cheapest way to grow is a second order, not a wider first one.
  1. Design one box for the whole range. Packaging is 500 pcs per design, not per tool. A single box design that fits three tools needs one minimum, not three, which is how gift sets become practical.
  1. Keep the first logo to one colour in one position. Add a second colour or a second print position on the re-order, when the volume can absorb it.

Where You Can Still Save Time and Money

  • Stock shapes skip production. In-stock tools move straight to branding, so a stock shape with a laser logo dispatches in about 5–7 working days instead of 15–20 days plus branding.
  • Re-orders carry no one-time fee. Engraving programs and printing plates are kept on file; packaging dies too. The second order pays for the goods, not the setup.
  • One packaging design across several tools. 500 pcs per design, not per SKU — combine your range under one box.
  • Ship together. Orders placed in one production window can be consolidated into a single shipment, which is usually cheaper than two part-shipments.
  • Unit price scales with quantity. We publish no fixed unit prices — material, finish and quantity all move the number. Send your target quantity and target landed cost and we will quote against it.

The Five Most Common MOQ Mistakes

  1. Reading "MOQ 100" as an order total. The most expensive misunderstanding in this industry. If your launch plan is three shapes at 100 pcs each, plan and budget for 300.
  1. Leaving packaging to the end. Discovering the 500 pcs packaging minimum after you have costed a 100-piece run is the classic way a launch gets delayed or cancelled.
  1. Launching with too many colours. Every colour is its own minimum, its own material batch and its own QC group. Two colours doubles your entry quantity before you have proof of demand.
  1. Choosing a made-to-order shape for a fixed date. A non-stock shape needs the full production window before branding can start — there is no way to compress it, no matter how small the order.
  1. Adding a second logo colour or position on the first order. Each extra colour or position needs its own plate or engraving program, which adds a separate production step exactly when your schedule is tightest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the MOQ 100 pcs per shape or per order?

Per shape and per colour. MOQ 100 pcs is the minimum for each individual tool, not a combined total. An order of three different shapes has a minimum of 300 pcs.

Can I order 50 pcs of one shape and 50 pcs of another?

Not as a combined minimum — each shape still needs its own 100 pcs. If you want to limit your first commitment, order 100 pcs of a single shape rather than spreading the same quantity across two.

What if I want two colours of the same shape?

Colour is counted the same way as shape: two colours of one tool means 2 × 100 pcs. Colour is also judged as a batch, so keeping to one colour per launch gives you more consistent pieces.

Can I mix stone and stainless steel in one order?

Yes, they can ship together, but each material-and-shape combination meets its own minimum of 100 pcs. Stone and stainless steel run on different production and finishing lines, so a stone heart and a stainless heart are two minimums, not one.

Does the minimum change for custom packaging?

Yes, and it is higher. Retail boxes, pouches and inserts start at 500 pcs per design — five times the tool minimum. Packaging is produced to order from your artwork and die, so there is never stock to draw from. See our private label cost, MOQ and margin guide for the full cost structure, including the one-time engraving and printing fees.

What is the minimum for a gift set?

A gift set has to satisfy two minimums at once: 100 pcs per tool and 500 pcs per packaging design. A fully custom-boxed set therefore realistically starts at 500 units, while a 100-unit first run is achievable when the tool is branded but the packaging is not. Our holiday gift set guide covers gift-set configurations in detail.

Can I get a sample before committing to 100 pcs?

Yes — sampling is the normal first step, and we would rather you validate the stone colour, the polish and the tool weight before a production run. Tell us the shape and finish you are considering and we will advise what is practical to send. For material selection start with stone vs stainless steel gua sha.
